Character:
The player plays as the character Alec Mason. He is a miner and is sent to Mars to help mine. His brother was secretly part of a rebellion group called Red Faction, he tried to recruit Alec. While Alec was working with him when the EDF (Earth Defense Force) came and killed his brother right in front of his. Since this happened he had no choice but to join the rebellion.
Story:
Alec was just sent to Mars to mine there with his brother. When he got there his brother took him right to the mining job but was also trying to convince Alec to join the red faction rebellion against the EDF. Alec declined it but once the job was finished the EDF came and killed his brother. Alec went back to his house and the EDF were there and tried to kill him for being in the red faction which he wasn't at the time. Right as he was about to get killed some red faction people came and saved his life. Now he had no choice but to join the rebellion. He now has to go through the different towns and try to recruit more people by doing different missions like retrieving EDF intell or colonists out of EDF control.
